Why we created Aleo Shop

Why we created Aleo Shop

The problem from my pov

I'm frustrated with the home decor space—it's noisy with new trends every day, everyone is an expert, and every expert is telling you a different thing.

"Don't do x, do y"

"Minimalism is out, maximalism is in"

"Don't buy dupes, buy the designer thing that costs you $500 per piece because quality."

Guess what that comes with too.

"Get 40% off this $650 lamp EOFY Sale"

"Buy our stuff and we'll ship it to you straight from China because we can't care less how the products look and feel —yes, we are Aussie owned."

"Our shipping will take 15-20 days because we work with carriers that are taking super great care of your products"

I could be misleading and totally incorrect here, but I feel like no one talks about this. More importantly no one is doing anything about it.

The truth is... we should be empowering one another to embrace their own style and personality. Build a Pinterest board and pin everything you love until you see a pattern of who you are. Apply it to your home, your outfits, the way you do your hair, your makeup. Let others inspire you, but don't let them erase you. Don't copy and paste their home into yours just because they told you that mid-century modern is trendy.

Of course there are guidelines, frameworks that you can follow but don't strive for false perfection in the home. It's only cosy because YOU are in it.

What we're doing

In the past 4 months, we've been interviewing hundreds of consumers and dozens of manufacturers to understand how we can bridge this gap in the market. It's important to us to break down a cordless lamp and understand each part, the different battery sizes, the material of each product, and the list goes on. Scrutinising these elements and improving our products mean we have to invest a very large amount of capital into the production process.

It has been tough and we've already made a bunch of mistakes, but we have a ginormous mission ahead.

Whatever it is—we're doing it.

Alan and I are excited to launch Aleo Shop.

We won't be perfect on our first go but we will keep listening, inventing, and questioning the "norms" so you don't have to.
